DALLAS, TX, [September 18, 2020] — Spark Biomedical, Inc, CARMAhealth, and Recovery Unplugged jointly developed abstract places second in the American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN) 2020 Annual Conference. The abstract entitled, Interim Results from a Randomized, Double-Blind, Controlled Trial Examining Use of Transcutaneous Auricular Neurostimulation (tAN) to Improve Symptoms Associated with Opioid Withdrawal, outlines initial results from the first 20 patients in the clinical trial targeting participants with opioid use disorder.

In addition to the recognition, this jointly developed abstract will be presented by Dr. Carlos Tirado, MD, along with others in the top three rankings during the virtual abstract session held Saturday, September 19, at 2:15 p.m. as part of the ASPN 2020 Virtual Conference.

Daniel Powell, Chief Executive Officer of Spark Biomedical, noted, “We’re proud to be acknowledged for our clinical advances by the marquee event for pain and neuroscience. We look forward to partnering with the pain and neuroscience community in the future to bring innovative solutions to the opioid epidemic.”

“Opioid tapering in patients that are physically dependent on opioid medications may result in serious harm, including withdrawal symptoms, psychological distress, uncontrolled pain, and suicide. We at Spark believe that transcutaneous auricular neurostimulation (tAN) can reduce or prevent withdrawal symptoms often present during the tapering process. We’re excited to have the opportunity to share our knowledge and findings with leaders in the pain management medical community,” said Navid Khodaparast, Chief Science Officer at Spark Biomedical.
